The Explorers train operated with six privately owned passenger cars pulled by Amtrak P42 145 in 40th anniversary heritage paint.

High Iron’s Caritas (a four bedroom sleeper lounge) has appeared on the 20 plus years of Explorers trips.

NYC 448 is a 48 seat diner that was used for meal service on the trip. The car was never owned by Amtrak and its interior is in its original appearance.

Sky View is a former Santa Fe full length dome lounge and is one of nine domes purchased by Iowa Pacific from Alaska rail tour operators for several IP-owned railroads.

Colorado Pine is a former L&N sleeper (Plantation Pine) currently in a 6 roomette, 4 bedroom, 6 section configuration.

Cimarron River is a 4 bedroom 14 roomette sleeper built for the Frisco. It next spent time on the Canadian National before being acquired by its current owner who repainted it in Frisco colors.

Pacific Sands is former Union Pacific 10-6 sleeper that served many years in Amtrak service. It is now owned by Pullman Adventures

Leading the train was Amtrak 145, a P42DC, one of several Amtrak locomotives painted in various historical Amtrak paint schemes to celebrate the railroad’s 40th anniversary.
