We have lots of mileage to cover today, so we have to leave Hobbs in the middle of the night. We return to Monahans, retrieve the Amtrak locomotive and head west to El Paso. After the train is serviced there, we back up to the junction with the Carrizozo sub, the western end of the Golden State route. We then head north to the town of Carrizozo where we tie up for the night.
